Bharti Airtel announced that it has started transitioning Tata Teleservices customers will start transitioning to the Airtel mobile network under an Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) arrangement.

The first batch of the transition is being effected in UP (West), Bihar, and West Bengal. Over the coming weeks, all consumer mobile customers of Tata Teleservices across all circles will gradually transition to the Airtel network.

Tata Teleservices customers will still be able to use their existing SIMs, and will be billed as per their existing plans/pack benefits.

“The transition will be fully seamless and nothing changes for Tata customers, who will continue on the same SIM and plan,” said Ajai Puri, chief operating officer of Bharti Airtel.

Airtel and Tata Teleservices recently announced an agreement to merge the Consumer Mobile Businesses of Tata Teleservices Limited and Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Limited into Airtel. The deal is the latest among a wave of mergers in India’s hypercompetitive, low-margin mobile market. The acquisition is currently undergoing regulatory approvals.

T Elango, president of Consumer Business at Tata Teleservices said, “As we rationalize our network assets on a staggered basis, we have decided to begin transitioning our mobile customers to the Airtel network under an ICR arrangement. We assure our customers of best in class services with zero disruption.”
