14 cellcos vow to improve mobile roaming experience under hi-H initiative

roaming experience

The Hand-in-Hand Program (hi-H), a global telecom partnership platform initiated last year by China Mobile, has launched a multilateral roaming quality enhancement project with 14 mobile network operators, under which they will jointly optimize network performance to improve the customer roaming experience.

Hi-H members – including China Mobile International, Companhia de Telecomunicacoes de Macau (CTM), Chunghwa Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, FarEasTone, KT, Orange, StarHub Mobile, Telenor, True Corp, Turk Telekom International and Vimpelcom – signed a joint declaration and MoU in Guangzhou Tuesday to improve the roaming experience of their respective customers via a framework for enhancing international roaming quality of voice, data and SMS services.

In those three core areas, the cellcos will cooperate to optimize routing solutions for high-quality voice services, establish direct or optimal connections for Diameter/SCCP signaling and S8/GRX traffic and provide customers with fast, stable and reliable transmission of SMS services.

Through this collaboration project, hi-H Program aims to assemble global cellcos to create a multiparty working platform to co-develop solutions for maximizing the efficiency of network architecture optimization.

Virtual teams will also be formed to monitor and verify the roaming experience of their customers on a regular basis by establishing proper communication channels for responding to roaming quality issues. Regular reviews on roaming paths for voice, data and SMS among the Parties will be conducted to ensure the realization of best practices.

The hi-H Program was initiated by China Mobile International in July 2015.
