Huawei Technologies has announced that China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) has announced that it will partner with Huawei to build a 5G-ready transport network covering 5G transport, enterprise private lines, and home broadband.

Huawei says the project marks CMHK’s transformation from providing pure mobile services to fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) services. Last month, CMHK signed a strategic cross-platform partnership agreement with i-Cable Communications that will combine their respective fixed and mobile operations. CMHK is also building up its 5G strategy with an FMC play in mind, particularly in relation to smart homes.

As part of its FMC transformation, CMHK has tapped Huawei to explore network construction strategies and research network architecture and technology evolution for 5G.

Huawei’s 5G-ready transport network solution provides FlexE, ethernet virtual private network (EVPN), segment routing, PAM4-based 50GE, 96-wavelength 200G OTN system, and other functions and technologies. The solution also sports an intent-based networking architecture and the vendor’s ‘uNetBuilder’ digital platform, and leverages a network cloud engine that implements end-to-end, unified control and management and intelligent O&M.

Huawei says the solution will help CMHK effectively build a 5G-ready comprehensive transport network covering private line and home broadband services at optimal TCO.
