The coming digitalization of almost everything is creating new challenges for data centers. The way forward, says Wong Wai Meng, CEO of Keppel Data Centres in Singapore, can be summed up in two acronyms: SESI and ACE.

As Wong explains to Disruptive.Asia’s Tony Poulos in this interview during CommunicAsia2017, SESI covers the four main characteristics data centers must support in the future: speed, efficiency (particularly in terms of power and cooling), security and intelligence.

Meanwhile, ACE focuses on the optimization requirements for future data centers: availability, cost and efficiency. The trick is that all three are at loggerheads with each other – optimizing availability might increase costs and reduce efficiency, for example – so achieving maximum optimization for all three is an art and a science.
