Philippines cellco Globe Telecom says it has entered the eSports arena with a new service called Globe Gaming via a series of strategic partnerships with industry players including Mineski, Riot Games, and Garena.

Globe Gaming is a holistic program designed to provide gamers and fans access to the latest titles, local, regional and global eSports competitions, original content and exclusive programming.

Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu stated that Globe will support the gaming and eSports industry by providing fully optimized internet connectivity, world class events and tournaments in the Philippines.

“Together with our new partners, we want to accelerate the gaming industry in the country by bringing gaming and eSports into homes, mobile devices, malls, and competition venues,” Cu said.

Globe is partnering with Philippine eSports organizations Mineski and MET (Mineski Events Team). As part of a multi-year, exclusive partnership, Globe and Mineski will collaborate on the formation and training of a forthcoming eSports team that will compete in regional and global events.

The parties will co-produce the Globe Philippine Pro Gaming League, a multi-title competition offering teams the opportunity to be crowned ‘Best in the Philippines’ while earning advancement to elite tournaments. Additionally, Globe and Mineski will bring back to the region the MET owned Manila Masters in 2019.

Globe also inked an exclusive partnership with Southeast Asian game publisher Garena that includes marketing, competitions and content production for mobile game Arena of Valor (AoV). Together, the companies will introduce a series of “Valor Cup” eSports tournaments offering teams the chance to compete for entry into the Arena of Valor World Championships, held in Los Angeles in July where $500,000 in prize money is at stake.

Additionally, the company’s partnership with Garena extends to the Riot Games owned title, League of Legends (LoL). As part of this partnership, Garena and Riot will introduce a multi-country tournament structure which awards the winning team direct entry into the League of Legends World Championships.

Globe Telecom says the initial partnerships are the first in a series of innovative and community-oriented programs driving the growth and development of the country’s eSports and gaming culture. Additional initiatives, including original content, industry events and other unique experiences, will be launched throughout 2018.
