Google-Wifi has landed in Hong Kong and Singapore via separate exclusive deals with telcos HKT and StarHub, who are offering the mesh Wi-Fi device as part of revamped broadband bundles.

HKT Smart Living is offering a “King of Coverage” service plan centered around Google-Wifi, which creates a mesh network of individual Wi-Fi points that work together to spread a strong Wi-Fi signal, effectively eliminating dead spots and signal drops in the home, even as people move from room to room.

HKT says its Wi-Fi solution is specifically designed for its Netvigator FTTH broadband network, and has launched a new promotion under which customers who sign up for a specific Netvigator FTTH plan for 30 months can get the “King of Coverage” service plan together with Google Wifi for free.

Meanwhile in Singapore, StarHub Broadband launched its own Google Wifi promotion – customers will be able to get a three-pack of Google Wifi at $0 upfront cost when they sign up for or renew selected StarHub Broadband and Hubbing all-in-one plans.

The plans include StarHub’s standalone 1Gbps Fibre Broadband service as well as multi-service SurfHub, HomeHub 1000 and HomeHub Go 1Gbps bundles.

“Mesh networking is quickly becoming popular, and we are thrilled to be Google’s exclusive local partner for Google Wifi, which has set the standard for ease-of-use, performance and affordability,” said StarHub chief marketing officer Howie Lau.

Google Wifi isn’t the only mesh-networking Wi-Fi gadget on the market. As Techgoondu reports, in Singapore alone, Singtel offers mesh-Wi-Fi services using devices from AirTies and Linksys’Velop, while M1 bundles Asus and Linksys mesh networking kits with its 1-Gbps fiber broadband package for an additional charge.

That said, Google Wifi comes with the bonus of name recognition, purported ease of use, and regular automatic security updates every six weeks.
