Honor launched its first foldable smartphone, the Honor Magic V, featuring five cameras and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, as it targets the high-end segment with the device starting at CNY9,999 ($1,570).

In a statement, Honor Device CEO George Zhao declared the company has “strong ambitions to become the top performing smartphone brand” in the premium foldable market and is confident “our first flagship foldable will be very competitive compared with existing models”.

The handset features a 6.45-inch curved OLED display when folded. It has a height of 160.4mm: folded is 72.7mm wide and 14.3mm thick; when open, it is 141.1mm wide and 6.7mm thick.

The device sports three-camera rear array, each with 50MP sensors, and a 42MP front camera on each screen.

The vendor said the battery can be fully charged in 40 minutes or to 50% of capacity in 15 minutes. It claims the model is equipped with an intelligent cooling system using the latest third-generation graphene and an AI intelligent thermal management system to cool down the phone more effectively.

The Magic V goes on sale in China 18 January. The version with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is CNY10,999. The lower-cost option has 256GB.
