Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announced updates to its NFV portfolio on Thursday, including support for Red Hat OpenStack Platform, a service to expedite the VNF onboarding process, a virtual headend solution for IPTV content, and a virtualized subscriber data management solution.

HPE says the new updates are intended to provide communications service providers (CSPs) access to new tools to speed NFV deployments, as well as virtualized solutions to build innovative, personalized customer services.

“As carriers transform into digital service providers, one of their biggest priorities is to establish a solid network foundation and flexible service platforms,” said David Sliter, vice president and general manager, Communications Solutions Business, HPE. “With HPE NFV solutions, carriers can implement a programmable infrastructure, providing the agility of the telco cloud and ability to scale their service deliveries to be more responsive to customer demand.”

Update details:

  • HPE NFV System 1.4: an update to HPE’s pre-integrated NFV solutions bundle, adding support for and allowing choice between Red Hat OpenStack Platform and HPE Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade 4.0 and integrating the OpenDaylight-based HPE OpenSDN controller
  • HPE VNF Onboarding Factory Service: a new program to enable CSPs to speed-up the VNF onboarding process
  • HPE Virtual Headend Manager: a new virtualized solution for managing IPTV content deployments for improved customer experiences and opening up potential new revenue opportunities

The addition of Red Hat OpenStack Platform to the NFV solutions bundle is part of a broader collaboration plan also announced Thursday by HPE and Red Hat under which HPE will offer ready-to-use, pre-integrated HPE NFV System solutions and HPE Validated Configurations incorporating Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Ceph Storage for CSPs.

The expanded collaboration enables Red Hat to make use of HPE OpenNFV Labs for VNF validation and for Red Hat OpenStack Platform customers to access HPE VNF Onboarding Services. The HPE OpenNFV Solution Portal is also being expanded to include VNFs from Red Hat partners, providing customers with access to pre-validated solutions that can help simplify deployments.

“With an open foundation for their NFV deployments, CSPs have access to a more flexible, agile, and scalable platform that can meet dynamic requirements, now and in the future,” said Radhesh Balakrishnan, general manager of OpenStack at Red Hat. “By bringing Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Ceph Storage to HPE’s NFV solution, we are offering even more choice to CSPs as they transform and modernize their networks.”

Additionally, HPE and Red Hat are collaborating to certify HPE NFV operations solutions, including HPE NFV Director for management and orchestration (MANO), HPE Service Director for operations support systems (OSS), HPE VNFs and the OpenDaylight-based HPE OpenSDN Solution on the Red Hat OpenStack Platform, backed by end-to-end support from HPE.
