Huawei announced a partnership with Intel and launched 3GPP 5G New Radio (NR) based interoperability development testing (IODT) to verify 5G technologies.
Based on Huawei’s 5G base station prototype and Intel’s third-generation 5G mobile trial platform (MTP), both companies will jointly verify the performance of key 5G NR technologies, including sub-6GHz, mmWave and mobility.
The companies say they will conduct testing in real mobile, over the air environments directly connecting Huawei’s infrastructure and Intel’s terminal platform.
Huawei highlighted C-band (a.k.a. the 3.5 GHz band) as a particular focus for testing, as it is one of the first globally harmonized 5G spectrum bands that will serve one of the world’s first commercialized 5G frequency bands.
The launch of IODT follows the MWC 2017 announcement by Huawei, Intel, and their respective telecom operator partners that they would work to drive globally unified 5G standards through 5G testing.
