Huawei and PLA – the largest tower company in Vietnam – have jointly announced the deployment of what they claim is the first multi-operator indoor digital system in Vietnam based on Huawei’s indoor digital coverage solution that enables multi-operator access.

The ‘LampSite Sharing’ solution was implemented in Vincom Center in Hanoi for three mobile network operators. Huawei says the indoor system provides a better 4G mobile broadband experience to users than legacy distributed antenna systems (DAS).

PLA operates over 4 million square meters of in-building infrastructure that it rents to network operators. With growing demand for indoor mobile broadband coverage, and increasingly popular apps such as ‘new retail’, ‘AI shopping’, and high-precision indoor navigation, seamless high-speed indoor coverage becomes highly important.

Huawei said it took just two weeks for PLA to swap traditional DAS infrastructure with its LampSite Sharing equipment in Vincom Center. The new system can be shared by all three major network operators, and enables download speed nearly twice that of traditional DAS by using MIMO, the vendor says. Powering the solution behind the scenes is Huawei’s ‘U2000’ OSS platform, which provides real-time end-to-end management.

Huawei says the LampSite Sharing solution has a lower TCO than legacy DAS networks and allows for a smooth evolution to 5G networks, which have been long requested by neutral hosts.
