Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) says it will offer DTV starter kits to all Singaporean HDB (Housing & Development Board) households that don’t have pay-TV subscriptions so they can keep watching local free-to-air TV programs after analogue TV signals are switched off at the end of this year.

Each starter kit will allow eligible households to either redeem an indoor antenna and digital set-top box for free (including free delivery and installation), or get S$100 ($74.50) off selected DTV equipment at participating electronics stores.

Eligible households will receive a letter explaining how the DTV starter kit can be used. Letters will be sent out in batches from this month to June 2018. Redemption of the DTV Starter Kit will end on December 31 when analogue TV broadcasts will cease and only digital broadcasts will be available.

According to the IMDA, about three quarters of Singapore households are already watching DTV either over-the-air, or via pay TV subscriptions. The DTV Starter Kit is an expansion of the IMDA’s DTV Assistance Scheme launched in 2014 to help more low-income households make the switch to DTV.

The IMDA said about 400,000 HDB households will benefit from the starter kits.
