It’s no secret by now that South Korea intends to be first out of the gate in the 5G races as operators like KT and SK Telecom take advantage of next year’s Winter Olympics in PyeongChang to launch commercial 5G services that will showcase the kinds of next-gen apps that 5G technology can enable.
Naturally, all eyes are on South Korea at events like this week’s TechXLR8 5G Asia event in Singapore. Disruptive.Asia publisher Tony Poulos caught up with Park Pyoung-Soo, VP of KT’s mobile access network technology department, to talk to about the incumbent’s planned 5G services at PyeongChang – including omni-view camera angles and 360º VR – its post-Olympics service rollout plan, and how it will do all of this while 5G standards work is still being completed.
Park also explains that even with KT at the forefront of 5G, the operator is still keen to pick up ideas at industry events like TechXLR8 5G Asia.
