It’s proving to be a busy week on the industry forum/standards front. MEF and ETSI Open Source MANO (OSM) group have issued new releases, while the NGMN Alliance reports progress on 5G testing and various forums make XGS-PON interoperability better.

ITEM: MEF has announced the MEF 3.0 Transformational Global Services Framework for defining, delivering, and certifying orchestrated communication services across a global ecosystem of automated networks.

According to the MEF, MEF 3.0 expands upon CE 2.0 services and technologies and blends sophisticated, standardized services with an emerging suite of LSO (Lifecycle Service Orchestration) APIs to provide an on-demand, cloud-centric experience with user- and application-directed control over network resources and service capabilities. More here …

ITEM: The ETSI Open Source MANO (OSM) group has announced finalization of OSM Release Three, which includes new capabilities as well as numerous enhancements in terms of scalability, performance, resiliency, security and user experience that facilitate its adoption in production environments.

OSM Release Three features a new role-based access control that enables users from different service providers to access the OSM system with the appropriate set of privileges. It facilitates the adoption of complex operation workflows without compromising the security of the network or its operations. Release Three also includes the support of projects. Read more …

ITEM: The Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Alliance said that its 5G Trial and Testing Initiative (5G TTI) project has defined 16 candidate technical building blocks eligible to 3GPP 5G phase 1 standard.

With that done, the project team is now moving on to work on three key streams: proof-of-concept, pre-commercial network trial and interoperability. Details here …

ITEM: XGS-PON interoperability has taken another step forward following the completion of the second XGS-PON Interoperability Plugfest, organized by Laboratoire des Applications Numériques (LAN), in collaboration with the Full Service Access Network (FSAN) Group and the Broadband Forum.

This year’s Plugfest focused on interoperability between XGS-PON Optical Line Terminations and Optical Network Units (ONUs), as well as the coexistence between various PON technologies, including GPON and NG-PON2. Participating companies included Adtran, Broadcom, Calix, CommScope, Econet, Huawei, Intel, MT2, Nokia, Sagemcom, TiBit Communications and ZTE. Read more here [PDF] …
