MyRepublic has formed an MVNO partnership with StarHub, which will enable the broadband operator to offer mobile services in Singapore utilizing StarHub’s mobile network infrastructure.

MyRepublic first announced its intentions to launch mobile services in 2015, and later that year attracted over 50,000 registrations of interest for its MyRepublic HetNet Mobility Trial in Jurong. MyRepublic says it received overwhelming support and positive feedback, which is why – after failing to secure Singapore’s fourth telco license in 2017, which went to TPG Telecom – the company is taking the MVNO route towards fulfilling its mobile ambitions.

“We made a promise and we want to stand by that promise,” said MyRepublic CEO Malcolm Rodrigues. “We promised that MyRepublic would bring a better kind of mobile service to Singapore, and we believe we can still do that.”

In the months after the spectrum auction, MyRepublic says it explored and evaluated various ways to offer mobile services as an MVNO, and eventually decided on StarHub as its network partner.

“It’s important we work with an MNO partner that’s well-aligned with us in terms of strategy,” said Yap Yong Teck, managing director of MyRepublic Singapore.

Yap said MyRepublic will focus its mobile services on “Singapore’s younger, more tech-savvy crowd”, the same demographic with which it targets its fixed-broadband services.

The MyRepublic deal is StarHub’s first foray into the MVNO business,” said StarHub chief marketing officer Howie Lau.

“With this partnership comes the ability for us to offer customers more choices, better address customer segment needs and grow our mobile business amid the evolving landscape,” Lau said.

MyRepublic expects to launch mobile services in Singapore “very soon”, with details on its plans and bundles to come.
