Singtel said it has achieved peak LTE speeds of 1.5 Gbps using five-carrier aggregation (5CA) technology across FDD and TDD spectrum bands in collaboration with Ericsson.

The lab test achieved 1.5 Gbps speeds using FDD and TDD LTE, 256QAM and 4X4 MIMO across two 1800-MHz bands and the 2100-MHz, 2600-MHz and TDD 2500-MHz spectrum bands. Ericsson provided the radio equipment, while the test equipment was supplied by Viavi Solutions and Stellent Networks.

Singtel said it will gradually deploy 5CA technology across Singapore as more spectrum bands are allocated for the LTE network, although smartphones supporting 1.5 Gbps speeds won’t be commercially available until sometime in 2019.

Singtel and Ericsson recently announced plans to launch a pilot 5G network in Singapore in the fourth quarter of 2018.
