Singtel has launched Singapore Quick Response Code (SG QR) payments on its mobile payments app, Singtel Dash.

Singtel Dash customers can now pay using the SG QR code at Singtel canteens across Singapore as well as Nanyang Technological University, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Nanyang Polytechnic. By the first quarter of 2018, customers will be able to use this payment option at more than 1,000 merchants and hawker centers.

Singtel Dash customers can use SG QR codes to make payments once they update the app. The function is available on both iOS and Android smartphones.

Yuen Kuan Moon, chief executive officer of Consumer Singapore at Singtel, said the move was intended to support the government’s goal of transforming Singapore into a cashless society.

Sopnendu Mohanty, chief FinTech officer of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), said he expects greater proliferation of SG QR by the industry in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Singtel also announced that Singtel Dash customers can now transfer money via their Singtel Dash wallet to any mobile number or into their local bank account. This increased flexibility will allow them to use their Singtel Dash app to perform a variety of transactions from transferring balances, paying friends or giving allowances to their children.

Singtel Dash is available to all consumers, regardless of telco relationship or handsets.
