SK Telecom says that it has expanded its AI-assisted network OSS system TANGO to its mobile network.

TANGO (T Advanced Next Generation Operational Supporting System) – which SK Telecom spent two years developing – sports big data analytics and machine learning capabilities that enable automated detection of network problems, troubleshooting and performance optimization – all based on the breakdown of network traffic information by area and period.

Also, the operator says, the system enhances accuracy in network management by measuring in real-time the quality of network operations that customers experience while using of the network. TANGO also features virtualization capabilities to help cellcos adopt new network capabilities, including IoT and 5G.

“AI-assisted network operation technology based on big data analytics will be essential in the 5G era,” said Park Jin-hyo, senior vice president and head of SK Telecom’s Network Technology R&D Center.

SK Telecom first deployed TANGO in its fixed-line network in December last year.

Last month, SK Telecom took TANGO overseas via a strategic partnership with Bharti Airtel.
