Smart Communications has teamed up with healthcare organization The Medical City (TMC) to serve medical tourists to the Philippines with a special prepaid SIM card.
Under the partnership – which capitalizes on the fact that the Philippines becoming one of the top medical tourism destinations in the world – foreign patients who are flying to the Philippines to obtain medical treatment at TMC will get a complimentary Smart LTE Tourist SIM, which they can activate upon arrival in the country.
Each SIM comes with 300MB data valid for three days, plus 700MB data reward when medical tourists top up at least 30 pesos (around $0.60) within three days of activation.
With the SIM, users can use Smart’s LTE network to update their family and friends about their condition, keep tabs on local and international news, and enjoy mobile content as they recover from their treatment.
“We at The Medical City are committed to doing all we can to make our patients’ stay at the hospital as comfortable and pleasant as possible,” said Jay Bengzon, TMC Vice President for Marketing.
The Philippines ranks 19th in the 2016 Medical Tourism Index, compiled by the International Healthcare Research Center to assess the attractiveness of a country as a medical tourist destination. Medical tourists flying to the Philippines usually come from China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, the Pacific Islands, Australia, USA, Europe, United Kingdom and the Gulf States.
TMC seeks to help further promote and boost the country’s reputation as a major healthcare destination as it has taken its brand into the global arena with its ownership and operation of Guam Regional Medical City, the first and only private hospital in Guam, and the establishment of ambulatory clinics in Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
