SmarTone teams with Cisco Jasper for IoT connectivity services

Hong Kong cellco SmarTone and Cisco have announced the launch of IoT services in Hong Kong via SmarTone’s mobile network and Cisco Jasper’s “Control Center” managed connectivity platform.

The partnership aims to makes it simple for Hong Kong companies of any size in any industry to transform their businesses by offering connected services that enable them to deliver IoT services of their own and enhance their customers’ experiences while enabling new revenue models.

SmarTone’s IoT customers can also expand their reach outside of Hong Kong and scale their IoT services to other countries as needed by way of Cisco Jasper’s partnerships with 30+ mobile operator groups representing over 120 mobile networks worldwide. Conversely, companies using the Cisco Jasper platform outside of Hong Kong can expand their connected services into the country via SmarTone.

Daniel Leung, head of Business Markets at SmarTone, emphasized the importance of managed connectivity in IoT services by automating communication between people, things and systems.

“We are committed to helping our business customers take advantage of IoT to deliver real business results, and to achieve that we needed the best IoT connectivity management platform,” said Leung. “This partnership makes it simple for all businesses to capture their share of the IoT market by delivering new connected services.”

SmarTone didn’t specify what kinds of IoT services its customers might use, but the press release cited services already being offered elsewhere on the Cisco Jasper platform, such as connected cars, industrial manufacturing, and smart city apps like intelligent transportation systems and smart utilities.
