Ericsson says that SoftBank has decided to deploy its Radio Dot System across Japan to deliver better indoor connectivity to its subscribers.

SoftBank began extensive testing of the Radio Dot System and several other indoor solutions in Japan in June 2015 to evaluate its options for meeting the huge demand for better indoor coverage in mid-sized to large buildings.

Ericsson says the Radio Dot proved its ability to enable high-performance voice and data coverage and capacity in a broad range of enterprise buildings and public venues, and will now be deployed for SoftBank later this year.

Mass rollout will start in the densest urban areas in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, targeting buildings such as office towers, shopping malls, and train stations.

“We are always interested in adopting the latest technologies to ensure our subscribers receive the best possible network service,” said Hideyuki Tsukuda, senior VP of SoftBank. “After evaluating a number of options, we concluded that the Ericsson Radio Dot System was the most cost-efficient solution for large buildings. Its deployment in crowded urban indoor environments will enable us to meet user expectations for a consistently high quality of network coverage.”
