StarHub and Linksys have launched a new MU-MIMO home router specifically built to solve a key issue for customers in Singapore – home Wi-Fi speeds slowed by heavy use and congested signals from multiple routers found in high-rise flats

Customers who sign up for or renew their StarHub 1-Gbps Fibre Home Broadband and HomeHub Plus plans will receive the all-new Linksys EA8100-AH Max-Stream AC2600 MU-MIMO Gigabit Wi-Fi Router at no additional cost.

Jenny Ng, VP for APAC at Linksys, says the router’s dynamic frequency selection (DFS) triples the number of channels available at 80 MHz, ensuring that high-performing devices like smart TVs, laptops and phones can connect to the internet through faster and cleaner Wi-Fi channels.

“The typical Singaporean household today has anywhere between ten to 30 devices operating simultaneously – this puts a strain on the home network to constantly deliver ultra-fast speeds,” said Ng. “This problem is compounded by interference and ‘airspace’ congestion from different routers operating in HDBs or high-rise condominiums.”

Justin Ang, head of product at StarHub, said that StarHub is the first operator in the world to offer the EA8100 commercially.

“The wireless router, though seemingly nondescript, is a vital component that can make or break the Wi-Fi experience for end-users,” he said.
