His previous experience includes senior leadership roles as CEO, MD and COO with a number of wireless and fully integrated companies including BT (Asia Pacific), Telstra (Australia & USA), Optus (Australia), Clear (New Zealand), Batelco (Middle East) and Ooredoo (Kuwait).Kaliaropoulos was also a key member of the StarHub senior executive team which launched the company operations in the Singapore market in April 2000.

Kaliaropoulos replaces current CEO Tan Tong Hai, who announced in November 2017 that he would step down from the post effective May 1, 2018, and also relinquish his appointment as executive director of StarHub.

Meanwhile, also on Friday, StarHub announced that it will cease further rollout of its hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) network to new residential and commercial buildings as it focuses its fixed broadband efforts on fiber.

For customers moving into new buildings that obtain Temporary Occupation Permit status after April 30, 2018, StarHub will deliver its broadband, pay TV and fixed voice services over the Nationwide Broadband Network (NBN) or via its own fiber infrastructure. The telco has been steadily expanding its own fiber infrastructure in the past few years to reach more commercial buildings, providing companies with diversity in internet access.

“A significant number of our customers have already moved to fiber networks, and we will continue to help the rest to get their homes and offices onto fiber, to embrace technologies and data for smarter living and working,” said chief technology officer Chong Siew Loong.

StarHub will provide customers with details of its plans for the existing HFC infrastructure in due course.
