TeleGeography CommsUpdate: Taiwanese MNOs Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile Company and Far EasTone have revealed the initial pricing for 5G connectivity, ahead of upcoming commercial launches, the Taipei Times reports.

For its part, mobile market leader Chunghwa Telecom has revealed its ‘5G experience pass’, which will allow subscribers currently signed up to its TWD1,399 (USD47) monthly plan to upgrade so as to have access to 5G connectivity at that same price level for a twelve-month period. There is one caveat, however, in that the plan will only be available to customers owning a 5G-compatible handset made by Samsung, such as the Galaxy S20.

Meanwhile, Taiwan Mobile Company – which had revealed its initial 5G pricing strategy last month – has now updated its offerings with a similar fee structure to Chungwha’s newly-announced plan. As such, Taiwan Mobile is offering customers on its TWD1,399 per month data plan to upgrade without an additional fee. Further, the mobile operator has said that subscribers will also benefit from a TWD2,500 discount on the purchase of a 5G-compatible smartphone.

Rounding out the trio, Far EasTone has also confirmed it will provide a free upgrade to 5G for those of its customers signed up to its TWD1,399 per month data plan.
