The Weekly Wrap 12, Mar 3, 2017: MWC17 post-conference recovery special!

Weekly Wrap 12

Weekly Wrap 12 features John Tanner and Tony Poulos discussing the news highlights from the week that was.

For the week ending March 3:

MWC17 has come and gone, and John and Tony discuss highlights from the event, starting with the conference sessions, where GSMA chair and Bharti Enterprise chief Sunnil Mittal declared a war on roaming in a bid to repair the mobile industry’s tarnished reputation among consumers – a war that arguably should have been launched sooner.

Another highlight: Bob Moritz of PwC reminding delegates that the most important element of the 4th Industrial Revolution is educating people outside the ICT sector – not just in terms of skillsets, but also awareness of the impact of 4IR and smart cities on their lives (both the good and the not so good).

Other observations focus on sheer the size of this year’s show as the mobile ecosystem widens to include more companies from outside the core mobile sector, raising the question of whether the MWC can logistically handle much more growth, and the odds of finding another suitable locale without resorting to (God help us) Las Vegas.
