Weekly Wrap 7

Weekly Wrap 7 features John Tanner and Alex Leslie discussing the news highlights from the week that was.

For the week ending January 7:

It was the week that saw the return of CES, with featured gadgets ranging from VR headsetsvirtual home assistants and connected cars to levitating speakers and smart hairbrushes.

It was also the week in which we learned Apple had yanked New York Times apps from its app store in China at the request of Chinese authorities who frown on news apps that write about Chinese officials in unapproved ways.

FinTech highlights for the week included Microsoft applying blockchain to the sports industry, while Bitcoin kicked off the year with its highest valuation in several years, only to see that value chopped over 30% before the week was out.

And it was the week where AT&T revealed its 5G game plan, which includes a fixed-wireless element that could have important ramifications for Asia-Pacific – provided AT&T can get it to work.
